
Royal Commissioner will was issued on Monday, 23/2/2009, to appoint Dr. Ghazi Shubaikat as Minister of Labour to replace Minister Basem Al-Salem, who was appointed Minister of Finance under the first Cabinet of Ministers change of Prime Minister Nader Dhahabi’s government.
Dr. Shubaikat has a Doctorate degree in Economics with an emphasis in Macro Politics and Monetary Policy from the University of Tennessee. He completed his Bachelor’s degree from Yarmouk University, and his Master's from the University of Jordan.
Dr. Shubaikat started his career in 1990 at the Central Bank as an Economic Researcher in the Research and Studies Department until 2002 when he moved to work in the International Monetary Fund until 2006. He also served as General Director of the Department of Statistics until 2008 where he held the position of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Labour until he was appointed, as of recently, as the Minister of Labour.
Dr. Shubaikat participated in the preparation of economic reform policies to address economic imbalances in many countries and has published research on many occasions.
