Labour Minister to announce details of work permit fee reduction

The Labour Minister Nayef Stetieh announced today the details of the bylaw amending the bylaw No. 3/2022 concerning work permits fees for non-Jordanians as endorsed by the Council of Ministers, which included reduction of the work permit fees as of 3/1/2022.

Stetieh explained that the reduction of work permit fees is intended to alleviate the financial burdens of investors and employers in the private sector, especially amidst the continuing repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic, and for the positive impacts of this decision on reducing the production costs across all sectors and economic activities.

In elaboration, the Minister said that the Council of Ministers decided to cut down the work permit fees for workers across all sectors and economic activities, including domestic workers, to decrease the amount of the work permit fee, including the extra sums, from JD500 to JD400 for the issue of work permits for the first time, or renewal thereof for one year or a part of the year.

He noted that work permit fees were decreased to enable the investors and employers in the private sector to hire experts from abroad to meet their business needs, as it was determined to cut down the work permit fees for employees with specialized skills.

He explained that the work permit fees, including the extra sums, charged from workers with specialized skills were decreased from JD2500 to JD2200. Additionally, two new segments have been added; the first is a six-month permit for JD1300 and the other segment is a three-month permit for JD695.

He indicated that the bylaw amending the bylaw concerning work permits standardized the independent permit fees to JD150 per day labourer, including the extra sums, to issue independent permits to work at the agricultural, construction, loading, or unloading sectors.

Stetieh asserted that the amended bylaw maintained the total fee for the first-time issue or renewal of work permits for workers who work at garment and textile institutions and companies at a total amount of JD275.
